The system requires players to input arrow key combinations to cast spells, adding an engaging, interactive element to the gameplay. Additionally, the pixel art is a standout feature, showcasing attention to detail and a nostalgic charm that complements the game’s fantasy setting.
However, despite these strengths, the game feels incomplete in several key areas. The dialogue options are limited, and the overall execution lacks polish, leaving the experience feeling unfinished. This may stem from its origins as a continuation of the developer’s previous flash game, Monster Musume Dungeons. Unfortunately, this transition from flash game to full release seems to have left some aspects underdeveloped.
One of the most significant drawbacks is the use of CG scenes. While some feature beautifully voiced characters, the absence of accompanying animation or scene variety fails to fully capitalize on the talent of the voice actors. This lack of visual and interactive depth detracts from the immersion and leaves much to be desired in terms of bringing the characters and scenarios to life.
Overall, I would recommend picking up Magical Waifus Academy during a sale rather than at full price. While there are elements worth appreciating, the game’s shortcomings prevent it from reaching its full potential. I have yet to try the developer’s sequel, but based on the trailers, it appears to improve on the foundation laid by this title and promises a more refined and complete experience.
