Senren＊Banka is a Japanese-style visual novel produced by Yuzusoft, a Japanese developer of romance VNs.
This game commemorated Yuzusoft’s 10th anniversary. It won numerous awards on the year of its release in Japan for its art, music, and characters.
It was a runner-up for the 2016 Moe Game Awards, and it won the first overall ranking in Getchu’s 2016 Bishoujo Game Awards.
Deep in the mountains lies Hoori, a small village so remote that no trains stop there.
Due to its isolation, it has resisted the spread of civilization.
However, its rustic charm and hot springs have transformed it into a famous tourist destination.
One of the village’s biggest draws is the divine blade Murasamemaru, stuck in a stone from which no one has been able to pull it out of… until our protagonist Arichi Masaomi manages to break it in half.
Before he can even come to grips with what just happened, he’s forced to make amends for what he’s done.
How, you might ask?
By marrying the village’s shrine maiden, of course!
He’s already in way over his head, but this is just the start of his mysterious and unfathomable new life in this village.
Masaomi then goes on to meet his new fiancée, discovers an enigmatic and strange girl that only he can touch, and begins to learn about the curse afflicting the village of Hoori.
Amidst this hectic new life, who will he set his heart on?
The answers he seeks lie within the legendary sword in his hands.
Hitachi Mako
From birth, she was raised to be the shrine princess’ bodyguard. She takes her work seriously, but work is the only thing she takes seriously.
Playful to a fault, she loves pulling pranks and poking fun at anyone and everyone. However, she’s easily flustered and gets embarrassed whenever anyone praises her more feminine traits.
Lena Liechtenauer
A transfer student studying from abroad. She’s a lively, kindhearted girl who, for better or worse, is as straightforward as it gets.
No matter how many times she fails, she’ll get right back up and keep going. “This isn’t enough to get me down!” is this optimistic girl’s favorite phrase.
Murasame
The caretaker of the divine blade, Murasamemaru. Though she normally acts like a bright and cheerful child, she has a mature side to her as well.
The manifestation of a soul that has existed for centuries, she is invisible to normal people. Despite being a spirit herself, she is terrified of ghosts.
Tomotake Yoshino
The shrine princess of Hoori’s Shrine. A strongly earnest girl, she’s often mistaken as somewhat standoffish, but she is actually a gentle girl at heart.
She’s also rather expressive and has a childish side to her. Though she always tries to appear cool and collected, she’s too clumsy to pull off the facade.
Kurama Koharu
Masaomi’s cousin who is one year younger than him. Though she’s normally kind, when it comes to her brother, Rentarou, she turns rather strict. Works at a nearby Japanese sweets shop.
Kurama Rentarou
Masaomi’s cousin who is the same age as him and the two are fast friends. He’s a good-natured kid at heart, but perhaps a little too easygoing.
Maniwa Roka
An older girl who was friends with the protagonist when they were kids. She has since graduated school and now manages her parents’ sweets shop.
She often plays up her age, but in reality she has no experience with romance.
Tomotake Yasuharu
Yoshino’s father.
A gentle soul who almost never gets angry.
He married into the Tomotake family and now serves as the shrine’s head priest.
